This series of classes starts with the reasons for the colonization of America and the War of Independence. The series continues with the expansion west and how the states were formed. This leads to a lesson on the Industrial Revolution which discusses the move from an agrarian culture to an industrial culture.
Students participate in a comparative activity where they use hand work versus mechanical production. Lessons continue to explore specific advances in inventions to include discussions on the impact of certain products such as the light bulb, radio, and photography. Finally, a look at more modern advances, especially in communication, to include television, the Internet, and telephones.
Students dismantle different appliances to gain a better understanding of their construction and how they work.
