About us

Batson Independent Education believes the family should have the control to make the decisions that will be best for them. We advise families in making informed choices in education that best suit their philosophies, abilities, and needs. Batson Independent Education offers guidance in communication with schools, submitting paperwork, and meeting requirements regarding homeschooling or special needs education. Information on resources that are available is provided.

Batson Independent Education offers a wide variety of programs and support for families in search of fulfilling their child’s needs. Individualized tutoring with acceleration or remediation is available as necessary. We provide enrichment classes for gifted and homeschool students. We have programming for Boy and Girl Scouts to help meet requirements for earning badges.

Group classes are open for enrollment at various times and locations. Smaller groups may book individual or a series of classes. Field trips to local sites of interest, such as the Carnegie Museum of Natural History or the Appalachian Rock Shop, are also available on request. Our Location

Areas We Serve

Batson Independent Education, Ltd. currently offers virtual classes, multi-session courses, and tutoring via Zoom. When it is safe to do so, we will resume in-person multi-session courses, single-session classes, tutoring, and field trip explorations in the Greater Pittsburgh, PA area.

It is difficult to put into words just how much our experience with Joan Batson has impacted our lives. And I say “our” because she not only teaches my son but our whole family. It is just such a wonderful thing, truly a blessing, to have a teacher that loves learning about the world and imparts that excitement in everything she brings to us. There is no such thing as “boredom” in her classes! The time always flies by too quickly, with the children as well as the adults. The preparation, detail, and hands on activities she brings, are exceptional in every way. Mrs. Batson is a portable classroom, lab and workshop ready to engage and excite learners, wherever they may be. We began with her at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, then had a few semesters at PALS Enrichment classes in Pittsburgh and now she comes right to our front door. The evolution of our “classroom” experience is particularly important to me because there is no difference in the quality of the experiences she offers, no matter what the venue. Mrs. Batson is one of those “special” teachers that children (and adults) will remember for the rest of their lives.
