Some animals use camouflage coloring to blend or fade into a background.  Others use mimicry to pretend they are something more threatening and dangerous. Whether one is a predator or prey, these creatures are geniuses at using disguise by design.

A curious (and hungry) bird decides to investigate a dead leaf on a nearby branch.
Upon closer inspection, the leaf moves, revealing large owl eyespots, startling the bird.
This slight delay allows the butterfly to make a quick escape.
The bird then realizes that it wasn’t an old dead leaf, it was a tasty treat.
Wait a minute, I missed my lunch!

Mrs. Joan Batson will teach this exciting science program exploring the amazing adaptations that allow animals to play the ultimate game of Hide-n-Seek. We will perform hands-on experiments and activities to help demonstrate the concepts of concealment by camouflage!
